A day in the life of ... a Leisure Travel Consultant Print | Email

  • Answer the phone/deal with walk in client
  • Qualify the clients needs
  • Quote the client
  • Close the sale/ take payment/issue documents

08h30 - 13h00
Walk in the door, set up your computer to start work. Check your mail for quotes received from previous day. Type out quotes, send to clients.
During the course of the morning you will be checking your faxes, emails, answering phone calls and taking on new enquiry. Phone calls will range from domestic to international enquiry.
You take down all of your clients details, qualify them correctly and ascertain where and when they want to travel in order to put together a compact quotation. Advise your clients that you work on a 24hr turnaround with your quotes.
Whilst sending out quotes you will be taking in calls from clients that are happy with what you have quoted and wish to book, then you will make the bookings.
While making the bookings you will get payments in for ongoing bookings, you may also get walk in clientele that want details for their holidays.

13h00 - 14h00
Break for lunch, try to take time away from your desk

14h00 - 17h00
Your phone will ring all day and you will constantly be taking on new enquiry.
It is ideal if you can multi-task. You need to either keep a diary or reminders on your computer to ensure that your bookings are paid and payments followed up and recorded in your accounts system (talisman)
You need to keep an individual file for each booking that you make, so as not to get confused. Once you have made a booking through the wholesaler you will invoice the client and get payment in, then make payment to the wholesaler, follow it through and get your documents normally with a 24hr period.
At the end of the day you would fill in your diary with the next day?s priorities and clear your desk.
We also offer services such as visas, foreign exchange, travel insurance which will be added to each of your bookings and increase your rand per file.

Once a week (normally on Mondays) we will close the office early and do an hour product knowledge on a destination that we sell. We are constantly striving to improve ourselves as consultants and individuals and to ensure this happens we need be constantly learning.
