This is one of the world's last true unspoilt wilderness areas. A vast country with huge populations of game, it's a prime safari destination.
Perhaps its biggest draw card is the wetland sanctuary, the Okavango Delta. The largest inland delta in the world, you're assured of excellent game viewing all year round. The camps here are small and intimate, offering good, wholesome food and very comfortable accommodation.
The Moremi Wildlife Reserve on the eastern fringe of the Delta is a patch of heaven, lily-covered wetlands, grass plains and lush forests, where an impressive variety of animals and birds make their home. This reserve is so vast that it's not uncommon to spend an entire day on safari without encountering another game viewing vehicle!
If you're fascinated by elephant, you'll find the majestic beasts in huge numbers in Chobe National Park. Take a sunset cruise and marvel at them congregated at the water's edge. From here you can easily spend the day exploring nearby Victoria Falls. In stark contrast to the lush waterways of the Delta is the Makgadikgadi Pans, mile after mile of shimmering white salt pans, Stone-age ruins, stretches of savannah and pre-historic beaches. Visitors are blown away by the desolation and the sense of utter freedom it invokes.
Across in Botswana's eastern corner lies the Tuli enclave, a diverse wilderness of savannah, riverine forests, marshland, open plains and sandstone outcrops. Within this area you are able to experience game on foot, horseback or on a cycling tour.
A Typical Day on Safari Wake-up (between 05h00 and 06h00 depending on the season) with tea and coffee. Meet in the central area for a light meal of cereal, fruit, biscuits and juice. Depart on your activity, which also includes a short stop in the wilderness, for a snack and coffee en-route. Return to camp at about 10h30 for a hearty brunch at 11h00, which includes foods such as eggs, quiche, pastries, etc. The afternoon is free for a siesta or a dip in the pool. At 15h30, the gong will call you for afternoon tea with cakes and savories. Depart for your afternoon activity, which includes a stop for sundowners and snacks.
We recommend that you spend at least 4 nights on safari in this beautiful country. The following are great combination packages: Visit the Delta before or after Victoria Falls. The Delta and Namibia - two stark contrasts of wetland and desert. Visit the Delta before or after Cape Town - from South Africa to Namibia and then to the Delta - how's that for a holiday of a lifetime?
