CLICK HERE FOR A MAP OF THE HLUHLUWE-IMFOLOZI RESERVE
The ultimate family safari! A fully guided private tour, designed specifically with families and small groups in mind, that offers flexibility and choice. We make use of private camps within the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve, and as you have the camp entirely to yourself, children have space to expel their natural exuberance and there is no need to worry about disturbing other guests. With your own personal chef and Tour Guide, your safari is tailor made to suit the family. Designed to take into consideration the needs of each family member, we can also easily 'add on' any activity the family may be interested in and tailor make your family safari, from snorkelling, to quad biking, or game viewing from horse back and other fun activities - see our day tours pages in St Lucia and Hluhluwe and adventure activities from St Lucia, for exciting activities for the whole family.

Day 1: Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve (D) Clients depart Hluhluwe by 13h00 (allowing clients on the Durban to Hluhluwe shuttle to connect if necessary, on specific departure days), arriving at your private lodge in the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve, in the early afternoon. This is the oldest game reserve in Africa, famous for its white rhino conservation. The reserve is not only home to the largest concentration of both black and white rhino, but all of Africa's Big Five occur here as well as many species of general game.
Unpack and spend some time settling in, before heading out on an afternoon game drive in an open safari game viewing vehicle, returning early evening for dinner. Whilst on safari learn about the incredible history of the area, where famous Zulu battles were fought, details about King Shaka's hunting grounds and about the conservation success stories of this magnificent wildlife sanctuary.
Day 2: Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve (BLD) Early morning wake-up, with coffee, tea and light snacks before heading out on a dawn game drive. We will stop for coffee and biscuits, whilst on the game drive. We will return late morning for a full brunch. Today we will also visit the reserve's renowned Centenary Centre and the museum that depicts the history of live game capture and animal relocation. There may be the opportunity to see animals being held in the bomas, awaiting relocation. Enjoy an afternoon game drive on return to the lodge for dinner.
Day 3: Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve (BLD) Early wake-up, with coffee, tea and light snacks. This morning we head out once again on a game drive and enjoy a picnic breakfast brunch in the game reserve. Afterwards we head back to our lodge for a midday siesta and relaxation, as well as lunch. This afternoon, we head out for our afternoon game drive.
Day 4: Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve (B) This morning is our last game drive, returning to the lodge for breakfast, before packing up and departing. Arrive back in Hluhluwe by 12h30 (giving clients time to connect with the Hluhluwe to Durban shuttle if required).
|
Please Note: As your camp is entirely your own, although we have provided time guidelines above, you and your family may choose the duration and time of your game experiences. The camp staff and rangers have an understanding of children and will always bear their best interests in mind. Arrangements can also be made for children to be left at the camp whilst the parents enjoy a game drive. Your family safari is entirely flexible. |

Hluhluwe and the surrouding area (particularly St Lucia) is known to be an exciting hub of adventure activities, with loads of opportunities to enjoy the wildlife and natural wilderness of the area. With so many fun and varied activities the whole family can enjoy, Hluhluwe is perfect as a Family Safari destination - see our Hluhluwe/St Lucia day tours and our St Lucia adventure activities pages for some exciting options.
From kayaking, to game viewing on horse back or on quad bike, turtle tracking (a night time foray to find these massive sea creatures - seasonal), dolphin and whale trips out into the ocean, wild waves adventures and more. We have offices, with our own vehicles and guides, based in Hluhluwe and St Lucia.
Throughout Southern Africa Thompsons have a range of accommodation for holiday makers who may wish to extend their holiday, and our Internet Consultants will know just the right accommodation options to suggest for families in all of these areas.
We can easily help you to extend your vacation - why not add on two nights in Sun City (two hours from Johannesburg). Sun City is an explosion of fun for children - from the 'Valley of Waves' to 'Kamp Kwena', the 'Lost City', extravaganza shows and more - and there's loads for mom and dad as well.
Perhaps a few nights in Cape Town, where we have a myriad of accommodation options for you to choose from and a full range of day tours, that may all be taken on a private basis. Why not 'tack-on' a few nights along the Garden Route, which is a wonderful self-touring destination, with a wealth of activities for the whole family, from a Primate Sanctuary, where you have the chance to literally walk in the tree canopy and view rescued primates, a free-flight Bird Eden, Elephant interaction, the underground caverns of the Cango Caves, dolphin viewing at sea and many beautiful beaches.
Our Thompsons fully guided tours of the Garden Route, departing Cape Town are: Garden Route Magnificent - 4 Days Garden Route Wonderland - 4 Days
Extend into the region and add Victoria Falls to your vacation - this is a fabulous hub of adventure and fun, where we can offer you a range of day tours and activities on the Zimbabwean and the Zambian side of The Falls. |
