The Kruger National Park enjoys a sub tropical climate which equates to hot, rainy summers (October to March) whilst during the winter months (April to September) the days are warm and dry, with cold nights and early mornings. Summer rains transform Kruger into a lush flowering paradise. The increased foliage does make it harder to see the animals, however, you will still be entertained with a myriad of animal species and the birdlife 'booms'. Winter, traditionally offers the best game viewing as the vegetation is sparse and water is restricted to rivers and waterholes, making it easier to spot the wildlife.
You will not be disappointed in your game experience whether it be summer or winter in Kruger - each offers its own special opportunities and the Kruger National Park is considered a safari destination for all seasons. Summer temperatures reach an average of 32 degrees Celsius, with spectacular afternoon thunderstorms and heavy downpours, whereas winter temperatures average around 22 degrees Celsius, with cold nights and early mornings.
