SA Airlink flies from Durban direct to Maputo and back, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Swazi Express flies from Durban via Matsapha (Swaziland) to Maputo and back, every Tuesday and Thursday.

Pelican Air flies directly to Vilanculos and back again, daily.
Pelican Air flies from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport to Vilanculos and back again, daily.

Charlen Air Services flies from Lanseria Airport (Johannesburg) to Imhambane and back again, every Monday and Friday.

LAM flies from Maputo to Imhambane and back again, every Monday and Friday.
LAM flies from Maputo to Pemba and back again, daily.
LAM flies from Durban direct to Maputo and back, every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

What to Expect

Maputo is an attractive port, which still retains much of its Portuguese charm. The old town is a maze of narrow streets lined with many buildings dating back to before the turn of the Century. One can pick up exotic spices, nuts and knickknacks at the town's many colourful markets, the most popular being the bustling marketplace at Costa del Sol.

Inhaca Island is a tropical island paradise located about 24km from the mainland. The Bazaruto Archipelago of islands is a string of small sandy islands boasting crystal blue waters and white sandy beaches. The chain of islands, which include both Benguerra and Bazaruto, have become an upmarket haven for visitors, who fly there to enjoy the unspoilt beauty and experience some of the best snorkelling, diving and big game fishing in the world.

Vilanculos is the gateway to the Bazaruto Archipelago and an ideal base from which to explore these islands, which not only offer idyllic beach holidays: they are also some of Mozambique's most important habitats for marine animals. They are home to, among other marine life, East Africa's last viable population of the endangered dugong, a large and exclusively marine herbivore.
