The camp comprises of 6 spacious luxury safari tents on raised platforms. The main camp comprises of a dining and bar area, which is situated under the shade of enormous trees, elevated to give splendid views of the surrounding plains. The camp also offers a small pool to cool off in. Most meals are enjoyed on deck (weather permitting).
The camp is perfectly positioned to take advantage of the game and predator concentrations of the Busanga Plains, being situated as it is within close proximity to permanent water and having easy access to a mix of seasonal and permanent floodplains. Viewing of species like puku, lechwe and hippo is possible for much of the day from the comfort of your tent or the main deck. The camp's fig trees ensure constant bird activity in the canopy above. Lion are frequently seen on the floodplain in front of the camp with sightings of wild dog and cheetah adding spice to the game drives. Day and night drives are offered as are walking safaris.
KAFUE NATIONAL PARK This is the largest Zambian National Park, covering an area of 22 500 square kilometres (the size of Wales), with over 150 species of mammal recorded in the park. Renowned for regular sightings of lion as well as leopard, wild dog, elephant, buffalo, cheetah, hippo and large numbers of plains game from zebra, wildebeest, lechwe, puku and sable... you will not be disappointed. The birding too is phenomenal. The Busanga Plains in the northern section of Kafue, where Shumba Camp is located, is a vast mosaic of grassy seasonal floodplains and 'dambos' (open grassy areas that occassionally fill with rainwater) that support a fantastic variety of wildlife.
