We’re up before the sun, to steal a march on the wildlife of Kruger National Park. They’re either just waking, or heading for bed. Led by a highly experienced Trails Ranger from our starting point, strap on our comfortable walking boots, and set off on foot to get up close and personal with game, big and small, and learn something precious about their world. Our ranger will teach us some bush skills, from animal tracking to bird and plant identification. It’s fun, it’s fascinating and you’ll fall in love with the sight, scents and wonderful sounds of the bush as the sun creeps up. Nobody knows what will be around the next corner, but rest assured, it’ll make your heart beat that little bit faster.  No children under 12 years.

Mpumalanga is a magnificent region, home to many of South Africa’s most spectacular natural sights. We’ll journey to the best of the best, visiting the legendary Blyde River Canyon, third largest in the world, and enjoying the never-ending Lowveld landscape from the ledge of God’s Window. We visit the quaint, historical mining town of Pilgrim’s Rest, and tuck into a delicious lunch at the famous Harrie’s Pancakes. In the afternoon, we give ourselves time to explore the extraordinary rock formations of Bourke’s Luck Potholes, one of nature’s most intriguing creations. It’s educational, it’s thrilling and, for those passionate about wildlife, nature and conservation, it’s an amazing day! We visit two highly successful conservation centres dedicated to preserving our wildlife, and experience a behind-the-scenes look at the extreme dedication and skill of our animal conservationists. We visit Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre – the largest in South Africa – and learn about techniques employed on injured, poisoned and abandoned animals and birds of prey. We’ll be invited to handle certain of the birds and animals. At Hoedspruit’s famed Endangered Species Centre, we’ll be privileged to see rare sightings such as wild dog, cheetah and aardwolf. We’ve planned lunch at the Centre to maximise your time there. You’ll take away with you more than you imagined at the end of the day!

CHIMPANZEE EDEN & BOTANICAL GARDENS

It’s a unique day, and we make the most of it! Its conservation, education, and botany, but wholly experiential. We watch the lives of chimpanzees in semi wild surroundings at the Jane Goodall Institute Chimpanzee Eden – it’s a unique opportunity to study these primates who share 98 percent of our DNA! A gratifying thought is that our presence here – our entrance fee - contributes to the rescue of another chimpanzee. We enjoy a hearty lunch at the Institute, with time over for a leisurely stroll through the exquisite Lowveld Botanical Gardens. A fitting end to an enriching experience.

When the gates of Kruger National Park close at nightfall, we enter the Park in our open safari vehicle in the expert company of an experienced Ranger.  By the light of the moon – we hope - and a large powerful spotlight, we track the elusive nocturnal animals of Africa.  It’s a wonderful experience, and no matter what is to be seen or found on that night, the magic of the bush by starlight, is something unforgettable.  No children under 6 years.

Turn back the clock, and spend an evening with the original inhabitants of the Sabi River: the Shangaan people.  We set out as the sun sets, and visit the chief’s village, meet his family, and the sangoma.  In the Royal Kraal, we’ll be seated and treated to a wonderful performance of traditional song and dance, before enjoying a sumptuous traditional dinner. No finer way to open your eyes to other cultures.

We have an affinity to elephants, no doubt about it. There’s something near-human about these gigantic mammals, and you’ll make that connection at Elephant Whispers. Here, we’ll meet six rescued African elephants ranging in age from 8 to 25, now at home in this haven where they’re treated with dignity.  Elephant Whispers is set on the banks of the Sabi River on the over 2 000 hectare Sandford Conservancy, so everybody that matters has elbow room. On our trip, we’ll experience Elephant Interaction, a fascinating educational interactive experience where you’ll be touching, feeding and learning about these gentle giants.  Your visit here ensures that these six magnificent mammals continue in their important role as wildlife ambassadors for their own kind, and we assure you, you’ll feel a certain pride in having played a part in that future.  No children under 8 on the elephant ride.  Duration: 1 Hour.

Relaxing on horseback, that’s the plan.  It’s a peaceful, laid-back one-hour outride, ideal for everybody from beginners through to the advanced horseman or woman.  We’re riding well-trained, home bred polo ponies through the surrounding natural beauty of the 2000 hectare Sandford Conservancy and Game Park, a more peaceful ramble one can’t imagine. Bring the children too – none under 6 years old however. 

No children under 6 years.  Weight limit is 90kgs.

The Sabi River Valley has a maze of thrilling trails for quad bikers, and we offer solo or double-up rides on our 250cc quad bikes, all safety equipment supplied.  Our trails meander through the scenic riverine forest of the Sabi River Valley, so it’s thrills galore through the cool canopy and lush vegetation provided by the forest, and an experienced guide accompanies every trip.  Duration: 1 to 4 Hours.

MICROLIGHT SAFARIS


SHORT TOUR - 30 MIN EXPERIENCE
Departs Daily between 06h00 – 17h00 from Numbi Airfield,
Main road Hazyview
Duration 30 Minutes
Enjoy a helicopter experience which includes the town of Hazyview as well as a few surrounding lodges along the Sabie river. You may even view hippo in the surrounding lodge dams or crocodiles at the Croc farm.  You will fly over Da Gama Dam which is the main reservoir in the area, and the banana plantations. Then fly over to Sabaan River Valley and Sabie river valley. Your will also be flown over citrus, mango, avocadoes, leech, macadamia and coffee crops. Finally, you will experience a fabulous view of the Northern Drakensberg mountains, and then return to Hazyview.

As the shadows lengthen and the heat of the day starts to cool, we set off on our exciting safari in an open safari vehicle with tiered seats. We enter the Kruger Park as the animals are waking up from their afternoon siesta, and they are hungry! They will be looking for their next meal and we hope to see the Big Five, and many other exciting animals. Keep your camera poised to capture that amazing photos of our sightings of the magnificent animals.  We arrive at our boma, set on the banks of the Phabeni River. Soak up the unique atmosphere of dinner in the bush, cooked African style over hot coals. We hope to see the usual abundance of animals coming to drink from the river. On the menu we have venison kebab, or stuffed mushrooms, traditional boerewors, chicken kebab, sirloin steak, pap and sheba, and a variety of salads and breads. Let us know if you prefer a vegetarian option!  After a delicious dinner we head back to Hazyview, hoping for more exciting animal sightings, and feeling privileged to have enjoyed this incredible African experience.
