Day 1: (Sat) Johannesburg / Kimberley
Depart Sandton and proceed to the Vredefort Dome, one of South Africa’s newest World Heritage Sites and where the biggest meteorite, larger in size than London, ever struck the earth. Thereafter we continue to the interesting town of Kimberley made famous by the discovery of diamond deposits. Dinner at the famous Kimberley Club is recommended.

Day 2: (Sun) Kimberley / Upington (B)
Morning tour of the Big Hole, the largest man-made excavation in the world, 240m dug entirely with shovels and picks in search of diamonds. After visiting the museum we continue to Kamfers Dam, which is home to the largest permanent population of lesser flamingos in Southern Africa. We continue to Upington arriving late afternoon. Time permitting, we recommend a sunset cruise on the Orange River.

Day 3: (Mon) Augrabies Falls (BL)
A day trip to the Augrabies Falls National Park and to the Augrabies Falls, the name meaning the ‘Place of Great Noise’. We recommend the short 5 kilometre Dassies Nature Trail Hike, which takes in Arrow Point, the Potholes and Moon Rock. Enjoy a picnic lunch and game viewing before returning to Upington for overnight.

Day 4: (Tue) Upington /Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (BD)
Enjoy a wine tasting at the local farmers Cooperative before we travel to The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, home to a wide variety of wildlife with the gemsbok and Kalahari lions being the main attractions.

Day 5: (Wed) Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (BD)
Enjoy 2 full days in the Park. Take a morning or afternoon drive and just enjoy the tranquillity of the desert especially the night sky.

Day 6: (Thu) Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (BD)
Morning and afternoon drive. Recommended is the optional night drive - where on some evenings the desert animals can be abundant in the dark.

Day 7: (Fri) Kgalagadi / Kuruman (B)
We depart to the small town of Kuruman. We visit the Moffat Mission, set up by a young married missionary couple who produced the first Tswana language bible. Their daughter married David Livingstone.

Day 8: (Sat) Kuruman / Johannesburg (B)
Depart for Johannesburg via Vryburg, known as the ‘Cattle Country’. After a brief visit, we arrive late afternoon in Johannesburg where you will be dropped off at the airport or overnight hotel. |
