Bazaruto Archipelago Island Getaway - Beach Holidays - Mozambique

Opposite the coastal town of Vilanculos, part of the mainland, lies a chain of magnificent islands - the Bazaruto Archipelago.

This string of small islands, including Bazaruto and Benguerra, form a Marine National Park, each of them impossibly idyllic, with soft white beaches, warm, clear blue sea with miles upon miles of reefs, masses of soaring palm trees and quaint little villages. Fish life here is abundant, making these islands a huge magnet for scuba drivers and snorkellers.

Bazaruto Island is the largest island in the archipelago and is approx-imately 37km long and 7km at its widest point. There are 2 lodges on Bazaruto Island – Indigo bay Island Resort and Spa to the south of the island, and Pestana Bazaruto Lodge, which is in a sheltered bay below the lighthouse on the north point of the island. Bazaruto Island has 2 airstrips, one near each of the resorts.

Benguerra Island is the second largest island in the archipelago and is approximately 11km long and 5,5km wide and lies 14km offshore from the mainland and the town of Vilanculos. The island has a hard grass airstrip, which give guests access to Benguerra Lodge. For guest staying at Marlin Lodge guests are met at Vilanculos Airport, as transferred by road to the jetty (10 minutes) and from there, it is a 30 minute boat trip to the lodge.

Dugong Beach Lodge is located 30 minutes by boat from Vilanculos’ jetty.
