Day 1: Arrive Cape Town
On arrival at Cape Town International Airport a Thompsons Representative will meet and assist you with the collection of your hired car (own account). Depending on your choice of area, you could be introduced to the wonders of the fynbos at Grootbos Private Nature Reserve, as you take a meandering path through an ancient milkwood forest, where thousand year old trees still survive. Alternatively explore the immense open plains, deep ravines, spectacular waterfalls and prehistoric rock formations, which characterise the Bushmans Kloof region, nestled between the majestic mountains of the Cederberg and the vast plains of the Great Karoo.
Day 2: Grootbos / Bushmans Kloof
One of South Africa’s premier marine and floral destinations, Grootbos Private Nature Reserve offers some of the best land-based whale watching. The reserve is near to Hermanus on the east coast of Cape Town, hidden high above Walker Bay where southern right whales come to calve and loll around in the breakers just a few metres off shore. Boat trips take you up close to huge sea bird colonies and Cape fur seals. Bushmans Kloof is located in a unique and unspoiled area, once the hunting ground of the intrepid San and now home to an incredible variety of wildlife and plant species. Surrounded by the untamed wilderness beauty of open plains, deep ravines and ancient sandstone rock formations, this oasis is nestled at the foothills of the Cederberg Mountains. The area is arid, with stunning vistas of wide open ‘desert’ landscapes. San rock art tours on the reserve provide an insight into an ancient culture that has been lost forever.
Day 3: Depart Cape Town
Return to Cape Town after breakfast and drop off your hired car at Cape Town International Airport.
