Day 1: Johannesburg / Pretoria
On arrival at OR Tambo International Airport (Johannesburg), a Thompsons Representative will meet and assist you to your hired vehicle (own account). We suggest you overnight in the historic city of Pretoria and a visit to the Union Buildings, one of Tshwane’s most impressive sights.
Day 2: Pretoria / Tzaneen
Leaving the beautiful jacaranda city behind, travel towards Polokwane and then onto Tzaneen. The journey down the escarpment is one of the most popular tourist drives in South Africa. It passes through a superb variety of scenery and at one stage drops 600 metres through 6km of dense forest. Make your way to Magoebaskloof, a beautiful, mountainous terrain.
Day 3: Tzaneen area
Today we suggest you spend your time exploring this magnificent countryside. Home to the famous and mysterious ‘Rain Queen’, the area is one of the most fertile in the country and supplies vast quantities of fresh produce to the South African export market. Suggest a visit to a tea plantation and factory, before re-turning to Magoebaskloof.
Day 4: Tzaneen / Timbavati
From Tzaneen head eastward en-route to the ‘Big Five’ country. Along the way you will travel through the Drakensberg Escarpment, with its sheer rock walls, pockets of indigenous forest, grass-covered slopes and vast plantations. From the top of the escarpment, the route descends into the true African bushveld. The Timbavati Game Reserve is famous for its white lions. Check into your selected game lodge, and spend the next 2 days discovering the beauty of the African bush.
Day 5: Timbavati Private Game Reserve / Panorama Route
Spend a wonderful and exciting day on safari with an early morning and late afternoon game drive. This is a meaningful experience, as you are able to come within touching distance of Africa’s ‘Big Five’.
Day 6: Timbavati Private Game Reserve / Johannesburg
This morning after an early morning game drive and breakfast, travel towards Mpumalanga and the Panorama Route. The Panorama Route is best known for its cultural heritage and dramatic landscapes. Enjoy magnificent vistas and exquisite waterfalls.
Day 7: Panorama Route / Johannesburg
This morning after breakfast, make your way towards Johannesburg. Return to OR Tambo International Airport (Johannesburg) in time to return your hired car and to check in for your onward journey.
