Travel Uganda - Holiday Packages & Tours

To travel Uganda, you must head deep into the heart of Africa, where the East African savannah meets the West African jungle. Nestled in its Equatorial loins, Uganda boasts the breathtaking Lake Victoria and Bunyonyi, scattered with its myriad of tiny island. From the mighty Nile to the Virunga Volcanoes and the snow-capped peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains, Uganda transcends the definition of a typical safari destination.

A land blessed with natures diversity, Uganda is an safari adventurer’s delight. Watch the African lions prowling the open plains in the morning and track chimpanzees through the rainforest undergrowth the same afternoon. Navigate tropical channels teeming with hippo and crocs before setting off into the misty mountains to stare deep into the eyes of a mountain gorilla. Boasting one of the largest selections of forest primates in the world, Uganda's star attraction is the endangered mountain gorilla. With less than 700 surviving individuals, it is the biggest of living primates, and among the most peaceable. Staring into the pensive brown eyes of these gentle giants, who share 95% of their genes with humans, is an experience as humbling as it is thrilling, and should be experienced by anyone planning on taking Uganda tours. The verdant biodiversity in this country is supplemented by an impressive selection of plains antelope and over 1000 species of birdlife.

Not to be outdone by its impressive array of wildlife and tranquil settings, Uganda boasts a diverse melting pot of cultures. It is home to over 30 different indigenous languages belonging to five distinct linguistic groups, and an equally diverse cultural mosaic of music, art and handicrafts.

The country's most ancient inhabitants, confined to the hilly southwest, are the Batwa and Bambuti Pygmies tribes. Rock painting depicting the hunter-gatherer cultures that once occupied much of East Africa can be seen in the rich legacy of rock paintings, such as those at the Nyero Rock Shelter near Kumi.

The Bantu-speaking kingdoms of Buganda, Bunyoro, Ankole and Toro form the cultural core of modern-day Uganda. The hardy hunters of the Bakonjo tribes inhabit the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, while the Bagisu of the Mount Elgon region are known for their colourful Imbalu ceremony, which is held around August of every even numbered year.
