Bounded, north and south, by two of Southern Africa’s mighty rivers, the Limpopo and the Zambezi, are many first-class game parks and unique historical and cultural sites like the Great Zimbabwe Ruins. And always, there’s the majestic Victoria Falls!
 
If you have a heart for the great outdoors, and long to be part of it, Zimbabwe is a magnificent destination. At Victoria Falls, the world’s biggest and most spectacular waterfall, there are many exciting activities. You may prefer a bird’s-eye-view of ‘the smoke that thunders’ from a helicopter or microlight. Perhaps your choice is to join the wetset careering down the river on a raft or river-board. The incredible ‘Falls’ has it all: trails for hiking, bird-watching, mountain-biking, horse-riding, jet-boating, river-rafting, canoeing.  And jumping off the bridge - the second highest jump in the world, a freefall of 111 metres!

 

 

If you prefer to be a spectator, think of the elevated viewing point on the back of an elephant. Better still, perhaps, might be a cruise on a river safari boat, perhaps sipping a G&T while the setting sun gilds the river, the skyline burns orange, the elephants jostle for their place at the water’s edge, and the African bush comes alive with the night sounds.  There’s a delightful village around the Falls, with a wide range of stunning accommodation options, high-quality craft work, and a sparkling fireside experience in a traditional African ‘Boma’.  Shangaan and Ndebele dancers will entertain you with cultural song and dance.
 
Major attractions in Zimbabwe are the prolific wildlife and numerous protected natural areas. The 14 000sq km Hwange National Park tops the bill: with over 100 different animal species, 400 kinds of bird, and one of the few remaining elephant sanctuaries on the continent, this outstanding park is the pride and joy of Zimbabwe.
